What Are Chemical Peels?
Chemical peels are a facial rejuvenation treatment similar to a facial, but with added strength to help exfoliate the skin. As the name suggests, chemical peels are performed with a blend of chemical ingredients that cause the skin to peel. With chemical peels, we are able to administer controlled exfoliation of the skin. By doing so, we can eliminate discoloration, acne and acne scars, poor skin texture, lines and wrinkles, and many other cosmetic concerns.
Once the damaged skin is removed, healthy, vibrant skin will be revealed. With chemical peel treatments, patients can enhance their complexion and achieve a more youthful appearance – and all without any invasive techniques!
Am I A Good Candidate for Chemical Peels?
If you would like to address any of the cosmetic concerns mentioned above, or if you’d simply like to enhance the appearance of the skin, you may be a good candidate for chemical peels. However, the best way to determine if you are a suitable candidate for a chemical peel is to schedule a personal consultation with Dr. Mohadjer.
During your consultation, you and Dr. Mohadjer will discuss your cosmetic goals in order to determine if chemical peels are a good fit for you. At this point, we will be able to help you schedule your treatment or find a suitable alternative.
What is the Chemical Peel Treatment Like?
Chemical peels are highly customizable, so your treatment will vary based on your skin type and your treatment goals. After assessing your skin, we’ll create a personalized chemical peel solution that will exfoliate the skin to the desired level.
During treatment, the chemical peel solution will be applied to the skin. This solution will rest on the skin for anywhere from a few minutes up to an hour, depending on your treatment. You may feel a warm or tingling sensation during this time as the skin is exfoliated. Afterwards, the solution will be washed off and the treatment will be complete.
What is the Chemical Peel Recovery Process Like?
The recovery from your chemical peel will vary depending on the strength of your treatment. More intense treatments will exfoliate more skin, resulting in more sensitivity and a longer recovery period. In general, however, patients can expect redness and sensitivity that resembles a sunburn.
Within a few days, the skin will begin to peel – this is natural and expected! After the skin peels, it is essential to keep the skin moisturized and protected from sunlight. In light of these effects, you’ll be able to resume most normal activities within a day of treatment.
What Kind of Results Can I Expect from Chemical Peels?
The results from chemical peels will become increasingly visible as the skin heals. It may take about a month for the full results to be noticeable. For cosmetic concerns such as wrinkles and scarring, we may recommend multiple chemical peel treatments. In these cases, it will take multiple sessions to completely exfoliate the affected areas and reveal the healthy skin underneath. After achieving their desired results, many patients choose to receive regular maintenance treatments in order to make their results last as long as possible.
