What is Ptosis Repair?
Ptosis repair is a procedure performed to correct ptosis, which is a condition characterized by the uncontrollable drooping of the upper eyelids. This may affect either one or both eyelids, and can have multiple causes. For example, ptosis may affect a person from birth, or it can develop due to muscular issues in the eye. In any case, ptosis can limit your field of vision and may also alter your appearance. Ptosis repair uses surgical techniques to restore the eyelid to a natural position and eliminate these symptoms.
Am I A Good Candidate for Ptosis Repair?
If you suffer from ptosis and would like to eliminate its symptoms, you may be a good candidate for ptosis repair. However, the best way to determine if you are a suitable candidate for ptosis repair is to schedule a personal consultation with Dr. Mohadjer.
During your consultation, you and Dr. Mohadjer will discuss your cosmetic goals in order to determine if ptosis repair is a good fit for you. At this point, we will be able to help you schedule your treatment or find a suitable alternative.
What is the Ptosis Repair Treatment Like?
The ptosis repair procedure is performed using local, IV, or (very rarely) general anesthesia for your safety and comfort. To begin treatment, an incision will be made within the natural folds of the affected eyelids. By placing incisions in these folds, any scarring will be virtually invisible. Through these incisions, we will attach the muscles around the eye to a different part of the eyelid. This will restore full control to the eyelid, alleviating symptoms of ptosis. This procedure is typically completed in about 30 minutes.
What is the Ptosis Repair Recovery Process Like?
The initial recovery period following your cosmetic ptosis repair will take about one to two weeks. During this time, it is common to experience some stiffness in the eyelids, as well as some blurred vision. You may not be able to completely shut the eye. Patients are asked to refrain from exercise, swimming, and heavy lifting while they heal. After this recovery period, you will be able to return to your usual activities and the majority of side effects should have resolved.
What Kind of Results Can I Expect from Ptosis Repair?
After you have recovered from the procedure, the results from ptosis repair should be fully visible. Once any side effects fade, you should achieve restored vision and a more youthful, alert appearance. The results from ptosis repair can be permanent, but they cannot prevent effects of aging from developing in the future.
