What is Upper and Lower Retraction Repair?
Upper and lower retraction repair is a surgical procedure performed to correct eyelid retraction. Eyelid retraction is a condition that occurs when the eyelids rest abnormally, either too high above or too far below the eye, and the eye is open too widely. This can cause the eyes to be very dry and irritated, and can increase the risk of infections that can lead to permanent visual loss. Eyelid retraction may develop due to thyroid eye disease, or as a reaction to other infections or conditions.
Eyelid Surgeons of Tampa Bay offers treatment to restore the eyelid to its natural position. This will help improve the appearance of the eyes and correct the function of the eyelids.
Am I A Good Candidate for Eyelid Retraction Repair?
If you have developed an eyelid retraction in the upper or lower eyelids, you may be a good candidate for eyelid retraction repair. However, the best way to determine if you are a suitable candidate for these services is to schedule a personal consultation with Dr. Mohadjer.
During your consultation, Dr. Mohadjer will assess your condition in order to determine if these treatments are a good fit for you. At this point, we will be able to help you schedule your treatment or find a suitable alternative.
What is the Eyelid Retraction Repair Procedure Like?
Eyelid retraction repair is performed with local or IV anesthesia for your safety and comfort. To improve upper eyelid retraction, Dr. Mohadjer will loosen the upper eyelid msucles to allow the eyelid to relax to a normal position. To improve lower eyelid retraction, a tissue graft is generally placed within the eyelid to raise the height and help the eyelids close more firmly. All incisions made during this treatment are placed within the natural folds of the eyelids to minimize visible incisions.
What is the Eyelid Retraction Repair Recovery Process Like?
The recovery process following eyelid retraction repair often involves some degree of swelling or bruising in the treatment area. These symptoms tend to resolve within a few weeks, so patients only need to take a few days off of work and other activities.
What Kind of Results Can I Expect from Eyelid Retraction Repair?
The results from eyelid retraction repair will be visible immediately after treatment, and will become more noticeable as any side effects fade. Following treatment, you can expect the eyelids to rest in a more natural position, enhancing your appearance and providing more coverage to the eyes.
